My Topshop Interview Experience

Hi everyone,

Before I start, I just wanted to apologise for being so inactive lately, I've just moved up to Aberdeen to start university so I'm just getting settled in. I'll be getting back to the weekly blog post now though!

As I have just moved to a new city and I now am technically living 'independantly' I felt like getting a job would probably be a good idea as I have a major shopping addiction! In Aberdeen, there are 3 shopping centres - Union Square, Bon Accord&St. Nicholas centre and the Trinity centre. Union Square and Bon Accord are probably slightly more fashion retail based but the Trinity centre does have a Debenhams! When I noticed on the Bon Accord website that Topshop were looking for sales advisors, I had to apply.  So, I handed in my CV and didn't really expect to hear much else as I assumed many more 'fashion experienced' people would have also applied. A couple of weeks later, however, I got a phone call asking me to come in for a Visual Merchandiser interview (I should mention that in my previous job I was a Visual Merchandiser for Nutmeg, the clothing branch within Morrison's).

The first interview literally lasted about 10 minutes, it was a very informal chat with one of the store managers who was absolutely lovely. It was 1 to 1 which was good as it felt more relaxed.  She asked me what I was doing at Uni - Fashion Management - and a bit about my VM experience. I was also asked what kind of job I was looking for and then she told me what job they could offer. The manager said that I was great on paper but a lot younger than they had expected - obviously, I don't have a degree or anything yet! I was told that I would hear whether or not I would get a second interview by the end of the week so I left feeling reasonably happy with how the interview went.

Later on that afternoon, I got a phone call inviting me back for a second interview. This interview was going to be a practical so I was a lot more nervous! When I arrived, I had another mini interview where I was asked about my customer service experience, how I take feedback, my availability and how I keep up with current trends. I was then taken onto the shop floor and given a rail to set up with non clothing items such as purses, umbrellas, stationery, travel cups and phonecases. This was a lot of fun but very difficult. The whole process was supposed to take 30 minutes but it took me an hour and a half! During this time, some customers also came up to me asking for help just assuming that I worked at Toyshop so I had to try and help them! When I was finished, I had to briefly discuss why I had set it up like I had and then I was allowed to leave. The managers told me that they were impressed with what I had done and that I would hear either way the following week.

I had sort of come to the conclusion that I hadn't got the job as I felt I lacked the necessary experience and I had found the practical quite stressful. When the manager phoned me back, I was right, I hadn't been given the VM job but she had been impressed with me enough to pass on my CV and her recommendation to the Topshop concession in Debenhams! I was extremely grateful for this but by this point I had already accepted a job in Miss Selfridge.

I wanted to write this post as I know many girls and boys probably would love to get into Topshop or Hopman so I thought sharing my experience might help any of you out if you have an interview or are planning on applying! I would say the main thing Topshop look for is passion about fashion (what a cliche). If you show your personality and prove to them you would fit in well with the brand, you will do great!

I'm sorry this post has been so long, I was trying not to miss anything out! While researching for my interviews I came across this blog - that has a really good post about Topshop VM interviews that would be helpful to read as well.

I hope you enjoy reading this post!
Much love,

A/W 2016 Seasonal Rundown

Hi everyone,

If you're anything like me, you'll start planning your outfits for Autumn and Winter before Summer is even half way through. I love the sun, long holidays and everything else Summer brings but I have to admit my favourite season is most definitely Autumn. Autumn means Halloween, beautiful colours, dark and cosy nights in and most importantly...My Birthday.

I'm joking, I'm joking...well mostly. My favourite part of Autumn is the clothes. I love the deep plum and auburn colours all the shops showcase in this season. For some reason I feel that Autumn is the season where anything goes when it comes to fashion. It's exciting - the fabrics, patterns and colours are all so vibrant. I also think that my style game is at its best in the A/W seasons. The autumnal colour palette is one that I think suits me and works for me. This is why I decided to have a look at what trends the runway and high street stores have been forecasting as BIG for this year. And I'm going to share my findings with you in this blog post.

Underwear as Outerwear:

I feel like this trend as being clawing its way in for a while now. Slip dresses, silky camisoles etc etc have been on the scene for a while and I am predicting they won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Everyone is rocking them because they are so versatile. Wear them a-la Rihanna and Jamie Chung if you want a more glam look or over a plain t shirt to casual it up for a more everyday look.

A trend that seems to come round every Autumn is velvet and I hope to god that it keeps coming back. This trend is a particular favourite of mine and I intend on wearing as much of it as I can get away with this Autumn.

Many people think this could be a tricky trend to navigate - and they are right. But as shown above, there are many ways to try it out from a full on dress to just a velvet t shirt. Don't be scared by it. I think velvet makes every outfit look more interesting and classy. I love it.

Checked prints:

The last A/W trend I'll mention is possibly my favourite of this season so far - checks. I think I like it so much because it's aaaaalmost tartan which reminds me of my Scottish roots (I did warn you, I'm a Scottish gal through and through). It also reminds me of one of my favourite films, Clueless, and that totally awesome checked two piece Cher wore in it.

I chose two outfits to illustrate how extensive this trend is - stay casual like Hailey with an oversized shirt or glam it out like Julianne Hough. I love both,

So, these are a few of my favourite trends for Autumn this year. I can't wait for this season to actually arrive and I hope this post helps you get excited as I am!!

PS before I forget I have something exciting to tell you all. I am now working with the amazing brand Coconut Lane. London Lovin'

Hi everyone,

Recently I went to London with my friend Hollie for Summer in the City. For anyone who doesn't know, SITC is the UK's biggest Youtube event, running every year in the London Excel. It's a really great event and I would recommend  it to anyone interested in Youtube, either as a fan or a creator. There are meet and greet opportunities, youtuber run panels, as well as rides, merch stands and live music.

Hollie and I were lucky enough to meet 6 youtubers through meet and greets - LucyandLydia, Katie Snooks, Victoria from In the Frow, Roxy from Roxxsauras, Luke Korns and Mikey Murphy. All of them were really lovely but a particular favourite was definitely Luke - even though he thought we were Irish!! While there we also bumped into Susie from Hello October, Alex from I Covet Thee and FabulousHannah. This is one of the things I really enjoyed about the event. The line between 'creator' and 'fan' became blurred and we were all just people who shared a common interest.

I didn't add photos from the other meet and greets as I wasn't coping well with the London heat and looked extreeeemely sweaty haha!

I really loved being at Summer in the City. Everyone seemed so relaxed and happy to be there. There was no competition or judgement, everyone just mingled happily. While we were there we met two lovely youtubers named Matthew - - and Juliette - - please take the time to check out their channels as they were both so lovely!

Before this weekend, I had only been to London once before with my school when I was in 3rd year and I hadn't really enjoyed it. As we were with our school, I didn't get to see much of actual London City Life so this time I was determined to get to know the British Capital - and I loved it. It probably helped that we had such lovely weather but it was a beautiful place with an excellent atmosphere. Being who we are, Hollie and I HAD to see the Benefit boat so that was the first thing we did when we got there and it definitely lived up to expectations! It was on the Embankment so we had a beautiful view of the London Eye while we had our drinks.

We also hit up Oxford Street and loved the shops! As Hollie is a youtuber and I am a (hopeful) blogger, we spent much of our free time looking for the perfect instagram pictures and luckily for us, London is full of these spots! Whitehall Gardens, across from the Embankment was a particular favourite of ours.

Hyde Park was also beautiful but I got a few strange looks while I posed for pictures and Hollie took about 100 photos of me...

And to end this rather lengthy blog post, I'll include a few more (as if there isn't enough already) of my favourite photos from the trip.  For anyone who hasn't been, if you ever get the opportunity to go to London take it!! It's such a beautiful and vibrant city and I can't wait until I can go back! If you want to see in detail what we got up to each day check out Hollie's vlog channel as she daily vlogged the entire weekend -

and then check out her main channel cause she's a star -

My outfit details:- Floral Dress -
                        Floral Shorts - Matalan
Black Bardot Top - New Look
                              Black Tshirt Dress - H&M
              Bag- New Look
                             Shoes - Adidas Superstars

I hope you enjoy my first post and I'll try to post one at least once a week.

Much love,

Hi everyone.

I'm starting this blog aged 17, about a month before I start university. I will be studying Fashion Management so this blog will be mainly fashion based with a few touches of beauty and lifestyle. I'm from Scotland and am most DEFINITELY a Scottish gal through and through but I do love to travel so expect some of that on this blog too!

At this moment I'm not too sure what else to say except from I'm excited to start this new journey and hope that you will all enjoy reading what I have to say!
